Royals Take Opener of I-70 Series With Cards

Game One of the I-70 Series between the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals goes to the Royals.  Mark Teahen, Alex Gordon, and Esteban German each had three hits to pace Kansas City to an 8-1 shellacking of their cross-state rivals Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals scored five runs in the 1 st , two in the 2 nd , and one in the 3 rd for all the runs they would need on the night. The Cards were held scoreless until the 9 th when pinch hitter Ryan Ludwick hit his second homer of the season off reliever David Riske.

Brian Bannister (3-3) pitched seven scoreless innings for the win, giving up seven hits while striking out six batters. St. Louis starter Brad Thompson (4-2) took the loss. He lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight earned runs on ten hits.

The Cards (27-34) and Royals (25-40) go at it again Wednesday night at the K. Odalis Perez (3-6) goes to the mound for Kansas City against the Redbirds’ Adam Wainwright (4-5).
