Albert Pujols went 3 for 4 with 3 runs batted in to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-3 win over the Kansas City Royals to even the I-70 Series at a game apiece Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

The Cardinals scored a run in the 1 st , then exploded for five runs in the 2 nd inning, and scored one more run in the 4 th for all the runs they would need.  The Royals were held scoreless until the 9 th when Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer to account for all the Redbirds’ scoring on the night.

Winning pitcher Adam Wainwright (5-5) pitched shut out ball through 8 innings, giving up only 1 hit. Losing pitcher Odalis Perez (3-7) lasted only three innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 10 hits.

The Cardinals (28-34) and Royals (25-41) wrap up the season’s first edition of the I-70 Series Thursday night at the K. Kip Wells (2-10) goes to the mound for St. Louis against Kansas City’s Scott Elarton (2-2).
