The St. Louis Cardinals take the finale of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, winning 9-6 Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

The Cards got on the board first in the bottom of the 2 nd , but the lead didn’t last long as the Angels tied it up and moved into the lead with three runs in the top of the 3 rd . Not a problem for the Redbirds as they scored twice in the bottom of the 3 rd on a two-run homer by Albert Pujols, his 14 th home run of the season, to even the score at 3.

The Halos took the lead again with a run in the 4 th , but the Cards weren’t about to roll over and die. They scored three runs in the 5 th to move ahead of Los Angeles 6-4.

The Angels then chipped away with a run in the 6 th .

Not wanting to let the Angels think they could get back into it, St. Louis scored three runs in the 7 th , on a three-run homer by Scott Spiezio, his second home run of the year.

L.A. scored one more run, a pinch hit home by Robb Quinlan in the 9 th , but it was too little, too late, and the Cards salvaged a win in their weekend series.

The Cardinals have Monday off before they head down I-70 to Kansas City to resume their Missouri rivalry with the Royals. Brad Thompson (4-1) pitches for St. Louis against the Royals’ Brian Bannister (2-3) in the opener of the series.
