The suspect in the killing of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith – the Kansas City area woman who was kidnapped from outside a store in Olathe, Kansas, and whose body was found in southern Jackson County – was convicted in juvenile court of threatening his sister with a knife when he was 15 years old.

26-year-old Edwin Hall pleaded no contest to aggravated assault in May of 1996. The Kansas City Star reports Hall spent three years in four Kansas juvenile correctional facilities between 1996 and 1999, when he was released.

As for the investigation into the killing of Kelsey Smith, the Johnson County, Kansas, District Attorney says the teenager was strangled. The District Attorney’s office lists the cause of Kelsey Smith’s death as "asphyxia, due to ligature strangulation."
