The Colorado Rockies win their seventh in a row, and the Cardinals lose their third straight game as the Rockies defeat the Redbirds 8-3 Tuesday night at Coors Field in Denver.

Colorado got on the board first with a run in the 1 st inning, and the Cards tied it up with one in the top of the 4 th . In the bottom of the 4 th , the Rockies pulled away for good on a grand slam home run by catcher Yorvit Torrealba, his first roundtripper of the season, off Cardinals’ starter and losing pitcher Braden Looper (6-4). Looper pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits.

The Cardinals got one back in the 5 th when Scott Rolen belted his third homer of the season. After Colorado scored its sixth run in the 6 th , Jim Edmonds hit his fourth homer in the 7 th inning to draw the Redbirds to within three. But Colorado’s Brad Hawpe hit his seventh homer in the 7 th to give the Rockies all the runs they would need.

Rodrigo Lopez (2-0) picked up the win for Colorado.

The two teams continue their four-game set Wednesday night with Todd Wellemeyer (0-1) going to the mound for St. Louis (20-29) against Colorado’s Jason Hirsh (2-4).
