Steve Trachsel pitched a complete game, handing the Kansas City Royals their fifth straight loss, as the Baltimore Orioles blasted the Royals 9-1 Monday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Baltimore took a 1-0 lead in the 1 st inning and held onto that slim lead until the 4 th inning when they broke it open on a grand slam home run by Ramon Hernandez, his second homer of the season.

The O’s scored runs in the 5 th and 6 th innings before the Royals scored their only run of the night in the bottom of the 7 th . Baltimore added a run in the 9 th to round out the scoring.

Trachsel (4-3) gave up one earned run on five hits. Scott Elarton (1-1) gave up seven earned runs in five innings to take the loss.

The Royals (19-33) and the Orioles (24-27) play again Tuesday night at the K. Jorge De La Rosa (4-4) pitches against Baltimore’s Jeremy Guthrie (2-1).
