The St. Louis Cardinals have made a roster move, optioning struggling right-handed pitcher Anthony Reyes to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. And, the team has recalled left-handed reliever Troy Cate to replace Reyes.
Reyes was 0-8 on the season with a 6.08 ERA. In his last outing for the Cardinals Reyes gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings of work against the Washington Nationals.
Todd Wellemeyer, who was claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on May 15 th , will move from the bullpen to the startng rotation and gets the nod to pitch against the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Wednesday. Wellemeyer has pitched 6 2/3 innings since joining the Cards, posting an ERA of 2.70.
