A study of Missouri’s VA facilities, conducted by seven members of Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) staff, finds Missouri’s 22 Veterans Administration health care facilities are in good condition with minimal problems.

The two-month assessment found that despite several problems cited by veterans and health professionals, the overall results indicate these facilities, which include five hospitals and 17 outpatient clinics, deliver a high quality of care.

McCaskill got the idea to conduct the study as a result of the VA’s nationwide review of its own facilities which indicated a number of problems. McCaskill calls her initial study "encouraging," adding what was found is "unlike the deplorable conditions … at Walter Reed Army Medical Center."

Next week, McCaskill embarks on a four-day, 15 city tour to visit with local veterans about their experiences.
