The Public Service Commission has granted Ameren Corporation – the state’s largest electric utility – a rate increase. But the increase is nowhere close to what Ameren had requested.

PSC Chairman Jeff Davis says Ameren had requested approximately $361-Million and received only $43-Million, which is roughly 13 percent of what had been asked for by the utility. It works out to about a 3-and-a-half percent increase, much like a cost of living adjustment for a wage earner.

With the increase granted by the PSC, the rates for the average residential customer are expected to rise by about $2.33 a month. Anyone wishing to challenge the PSC’s decision has ten days in which to file a motion for a rehearing.
