They’re talking….but are not close to agreement…..on a replacement for the Medicaid program.

State lawmakers face two deadlines—adjournment of the legislative session tomorrow night and the end of the Medicaid program next year.

Senate Majority Leader Charlie Shields of St. Joseph is leading senator trying to find middle ground with members of the House. He says negotiations have been difficult but he’s an "eternal optimist" on the Healthnet bill. No talks are scheduled during the day so negotiators can assess their positions. Shields thinks there will be talks tonight.

The legislature must adjourn at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
