Pitching and hitting came together on the West Coast on Saturday as the St. Louis Cardinals shut-out the Padres 5-0 in San Diego.

The Redbirds scored all five of the game’s runs in the 3 rd inning, three of them coming on a So Taguchi double that cleared the bases.

Braden Looper (5-2) pitched 7 innings for the win, striking out seven batters while scattering three hits. Cardinals relievers Russ Springer and Tyler Johnson each pitched an inning to nail down the victory. Chris Young (4-3) took the loss.

The Cardinals (15-19) and Padres (19-18) wrap up their weekend series Sunday in San Diego.
