DNA evidence appears to be the key ingredient in solving a January, 2006 rape of a woman outside her Kansas City home.

One man had previously been charged in the crime. But the identity of a second man remained a mystery until the DNA sample taken from a Missouri inmate matched DNA from the crime scene. 19-year-old Jon Vaughns, who is at a St. Joseph prison, faces eleven felony counts in connection with the crime. Co-defendant O’Brian Jones, also 19, had previously been charged with ten felony charges.

The two are also accused of pouring bleach and rubbing alcohol on the victim in a failed bid to destroy evidence.
