A convicted sex offender on the faculty at Missouri State University has been suspended while school officials consider new information about him.

The record of Associate Professor Eugene Michael Hendrix became a public issue earlier this month. Hendrix has been at MSU for 12 years. He served more than three years in an Ohio prison for raping a nine-year-old Cincinnati boy.

Earlier this month the school stood by Hendrix, saying he had not tried to hide his past from school officials and that he had complied with all conditions of the state sex offender registry law. But school officials say they were surprised to learn Hendrix had not registered as a sex offender for eight years after he began working at MSU.
