Lorenzo Gilyard, convicted last month of strangling six women in Kansas City in 1986 and 1987, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors had agreed, in January, not to seek the death penalty against the 56-year-old former trash company supervisor, as long as he agreed to a trial before a judge without a jury.
Gilyard had initially faced 13 counts of murder, but six of those counts were dropped as the trial began, and could be filed again at a later date. Gilyard was actually acquitted of one of the murders.
Prosecutors made use of DNA evidence during the trial. His semen was found on the six women he was convicted of killing.
