Governor Matt Blunt and Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder have announced a new one-year pilot project encouraging state workers to mentor children.

The Missouri Mentor Initiative , launched through an executive order signed by the Governor, will provide up to 200 state employees the flexibility to spend one hour per week for up to 40 hours per year to help mentor students through programs such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

The mentoring would take place at schools during the school day. It’s a one-year pilot project that will be evaluated to measure benefits and participation. Lieutenant Governor Kinder’s office will oversee the initiative.
