A split has developed within an organization that says it supports new laws on big livestock operations.
The Missouri Association of Counties has been threatened with a lawsuit if it does not drop support of the bill that takes away most county regulatory powers for confined animal feeding operations. .
Linn County Presiding Commissioner Rick Solomon says the Association membership voted to support a set of provisisons dealing with health ordinances. But he says those provisions are not in the bill. He says he has not heard from the association, but has heard from two groups of counties, totalling more than twenty, supporting Linn County’s position.
The sponsor of the bill, Senator Chris Koster of Harrisonville, put his bill aside last week after it ran into opposition. He expects to bring the back for debate this week.
