With about two weeks to go before the filing deadline, most Missouri taxpayers – approximately 1.8-Million – have filed their returns. But Maura Browning with the Missouri Department of Revenue says about 800,000 to a million taxpayers have yet to take care of business. Browning says most Missourians entitled to refunds have already filed, with the procrastinators being those who owe the state money.

One of the trends seen in the last few years is a huge increase in the number and percentage of Missourians filing electronically. According to Browning, about 65 percent of the returns received, so far, were filed electronically.

This year’s filing deadline is April 17th. The extra two days result from the fact the 15th falls on a Sunday and the 16th is a holiday in the District of Columbia, which is where the Internal Revenue Service is headquartered.
