Thus far into Spring Training, very little has gone wrong for the defending World Champions’ pitching staff.  Despite questions surrounding their starting rotation, the starters ran their scoreless streak to 22 1/3 innings following Wednesday’s 2-2 tie with Washington.

Now if we could only remove all doubt regarding the stability of the outfield.

Manager Tony La Russa admitted after yesterday’s game with the Nationals that Jim Edmonds and Juan Encarnacion would probably begin the season on the disabled list.

"Our outfield is our biggest problem," La Russa said. "We’ve got a lot of question marks about what our outfield is going to look like."

Edmonds is recovering from foot and shoulder surgeries, while Encarnacion is still healing from an operation on his left wrist.

A possible outfield combination could feature Chris Duncan in left field, Scott Spezio in right, and a platoon of So Taguchi, Preston Wilson and Skip Schumaker in center.
