Cable TV Competition Bill Passed

March 15, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Competition in the cable television industry has been approved by the legislature and is ready for Governor Blunt to sign.

The Senate has given final passage to Senator John Griesheimer’s bill (HCS/SS/SCS/SB284) less than a day after the House finished its work on it.

He says phone companies are not the only ones eager to see cables get strung. "This is a heckuva day for Missouri," Griesheimer says.

The bill allows telephone companies to get statewide video franchises from the Public Service Commission.  When a phone company enters a market previously dominated by a cable company, the cable company has the right to terminate the local franchise agreement and get the same kind of statewide franchise the phone company has gotten.
