A top official with the state’s largest electric utility responds to a letter written by Governor Blunt’s Chief of Staff Ed Martin to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission. In the letter, Martin calls on the PSC to investigate the circumstances surrounding Attorney General Jay Nixon’s campaign contribution requests in light of a potential criminal investigation of Ameren over the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.
Tom Voss, President and Chief Executive Officer of AmerenUE, won’t question the actions of the Attorney General, but does have concerns over the Chief of Staff’s letter. He calls it, "unfortunate." Voss adds the letter, "Makes the whole situation more difficult to resolve over Taum Sauk."
Voss says the State Ethics Commission investigated these concerns last September and found no wrongdoing. Voss will not comment on Martin’s claim that a conversation with Ameren general counsel Steve Sullivan revealed the utility was concerned over what Ameren officials termed a "threat" from the Attorney General.
