The State Senate moves to control those annoying pre-recorded phone calls Missourians get just before Election Day.

The Senate has voted to open the state no-call list to cover fax machines, cell phones and text messaging, and to let people say they do not want to get auto-dailed, pre-recorded campaign messages.

The Senate also requires organizations making automated political solicitations to register with the Secretary of State and the Missouri Ethics Commission and report who is paying for the calls.

The bill also removes the anonymity of groups running broadcast advertising urging people to call their legislator by requiring committees making calls on behalf of an issue or candidate to also register with the state showing who is bankrolling them and who they’re backing.

One more round of voting is needed to send the bill to the House.
