Members of a senate committee are having a tough time clarifying the language of the state?s new minimum wage law. Efforts to clarify one issue have led to several more issues that need further clarification. Committee Vice Chair Luann Ridgeway began to uncover multiple “indirect consequences”, or leaks, in the law?s language through witness testimony. Issues that arose included uncertainties over who is defined as employee, who is defined as employer, does the new raise in wages even apply to every business sector? The panel has suggested to the full senate that a joint-committee should be formed to investigate just how the minimum wage law affects all Missourians.
