The Cardinals re-signed veteran outfielder Preston Wilson to a one-year contract worth $1 million. Wilson, 32, joined the team late last season and helped the team in its push for the World Series crown.

Wilson listened to offers from other teams, but ultimately wanted to be back in St. Louis for a title defense. With Wilson in the lineup the Redbirds possess another righthanded bat with power hitting ability.

St. Louis needed to add depth to the outfield and Wilson provides that for them. Center fielder Jim Edmonds and right fielder Juan Encarnacion are both coming off serious injuries from last season. They?re expected to be ready by opening day, but it?s not certain as to how long either player will be able to hold up.
