Anything that goes against President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Iraq is risky business for Senator Christopher Bond. That’s why he says Senator Hillary Clinton’s proposal to put a cap on the number of troops in Iraq, and to send more troops to Afghanistan, is a rash move.

“I stated originally what the danger would be of not following the President’s plan, and I hope she would have an opportunity to hear what the intelligence community said,” Bond said. “I will give her that opportunity.”

Bond says he met with the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the CIA, the Director of Defense Intelligence, state department officials and the FBI Director in a hearing last week. He says the intelligence community made it clear that troop withdrawal would have catastrophic effects in Iraq including the collapse of the country’s security forces, and the collapse of it’s very government. He adds the Head of the DIA, General Michael Maples, said a failure in Iraq would empower the Jihadist movement.
