Only days on the job, State Auditor Susan Montee is making good on a promise to conduct a thorough audit of MoHELA – the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority. She spent part of Monday, her formal inauguration day, meeting with MoHELA officials to discuss the proposed sale of assets. Montee says she has good reason to make MoHELA a top priority. The Board of MoHELA has already approved Governor Matt Blunt’s plan to sell off $350-Million of assets to pay for capital improvements on college and university campuses, but Blunt wants the deal approved by the General Assembly. It’s not known whether he’ll call a special session of the Legislature to get that done quickly. In the interim, Montee says she will quickly provide any and all information learned during the audit to state lawmakers who will have to consider the proposal.
