A man once considered by Gerald Ford as a potential running mate remembers Ford for his decency and openness. The former President died last night at age 93. Senator Bond was a young Governor when the Republican convention was held in Kansas City. He remembers Ford as a “kind and decent man,” who answered Bond’s appeal to have the convention in Missouri in 1976. Bond was on Ford’s short list of six potential running mates. Ford chose Kansas Senator Bob Dole.
