Highway Patrol Gears up for Long Holiday Weekend

December 21, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Christmas is just days away and the holiday travel period is beginning. Captain Tim with the State Highway Patrol says the casualty counting period for Missouri roads begins early Friday evening at 6 o’clock and runs through Christmas night at 11:59. Hull says some of the usual clutter on state roads might be alleviated this year because many Missourians have Friday and/or Tuesday off as part of their long weekend, and some of those people will probably will not be on the roads during the peak periods. During last year’s Christmas weekend, the Highway Patrol recorded 1,071 accidents, totalling 9 deaths and 411 injuries.
