Maybe last night’s Blues/Penguins game wasn’t quite Game 3 of the 1951 National League playoff between New York and Brooklyn, but to St. Louis fans, players and coaches, urgency had clearly set in. Coming close to tying the franchise record for consecutive losses can do that to a group.
Thankfully, the streak is over. The Note won their first game in almost a month, defeating Pittsburgh 4-1 Tuesday. St. Louis had lost its previous eleven contests, the last four under new Head Coach Andy Murray. But Doug Weight and Dan Hinote led the way to guarantee the franchise record of 13 straight losses was safe.
Weight and Hinote’s first period goals set the tone early for St. Louis. Ryan Johnson added a short-handed goal in the second period, while Jason Bacashihua stopped 16 of the 17 shots he saw in replacing starting goalie Manny Legace, who was suffering from the flu.
