Camden County’s emergency management office says almost every marina at the Lake of the Ozarks has some kind of damage from the ice and snow storm….But millions of dollars in damaged boats, docks, and marinas might not be insured. State insurance department spokesman Emily Kampeter says a lot of boats that are under the wreckage of docks or collapsed marina roofs are not protected. She says it’s important for people to look at their individual policies which often provide full coverage on a boat but lacks protection for damage caused by snow and ice. She says some people are going to be surprised and disappointed when they look at their boat policies. Some people might insure their boat as part of their homeowners policy. Kampeter says that might not be much good, either. She says the policy might not provide the same coverage conditions as the insurance on the house. Maybe the insurance carried by the dock or marina operator will pay? Kampeter says boat owners should not count on that, either. In some cases, she says, the marina might be covered only by a liability policy and the insurance won’t pay off unless there’s a showing of negligence by the marina operators.
