Ice and snow fell heavy overnight throughout southern and central Missouri, closing the main interstate between Kansas City and St. Louis. Missouri Department of Transportation District Five Engineer, Mike Schupp, says the Interstate 70 remains snow packed and covered, though it is open. MoDOT took the unusual step of closing I-70 overnight as semi tractor-trailers wrecked and blocked the roadway. I-70 between the Marshall Junction and Kingdom City closed between 3am and 7:30am Friday. Schupp says road crews will make clearing the interstate the top priority of the day. They then will move to other major roads, before clearing the remaining roads of the up to 12 inches of snow that fell on parts of Missouri.
