Hundreds of thousands of Missourians are without electricity this morning as the state attempts to dig out from under heavy snowfall. Freezing rain caused a lot of problems in the St. Louis area, snapping power lines. AmerenUE reports as many as 400,000 customers remain without power in both Missouri and across the state line in Illinois. The bulk of the outages are concentrated in the St. Louis metropolitan area and to its south. Ameren spokesman, Mike Cleary, says widespread outages are slowing work to restore electricity. He says more than 200 distribution feeder systems have been knocked out by the storm. Each system supplies power to between 500 and 1,500 customers. Cleary says the ice and wind created the biggest problem. Downed trees and deep snow are hampering crews from repairing the damage
