President Bush has given a couple of former Monett residents presidential pardons, saving their lives. One of the White House Turkeys pardoned this year in the annual ceremony is “Flyer.” A backup turkey, named “Fryer” also has been pardoned. They are the honorary grand marshalls of the Thanksgiving Day parade at Disneyland today. The birds were chosen by the President of Willow Brook Foods in Springfield, Mike Briggs, who got the honor because he’s the chairman of the National Turkey Foundation this year. The turkey-pardoning business began with another Missourian–Harry Truman–who pardoned the White House turkey in 19-47.
