A committee of the Missouri House studying immigration reform has filed a report saying illegal immigration is the result of – as the report puts it – lack of a traditional work ethic, combined with the effects of 30 years of abortion and expanding liberal social welfare policies (that) have produced a shortage of workers and a lack of incentive for those who can work.” But Committee Chairman Ed Emery, a representative from Lamar, admits he put the abortion language into the report and the language linking it to illegal immigration is his opinion. The six Democrat members of the committee have refused to sign the report, saying it includes things that the panel never talked about. Some Republican committee members say they can’t remember testimony that links abortion to immigration, but all ten of them have signed the report.
