For the first time since 1999, the Chiefs will not have the services of tight end Tony Gonzalez. The perennial Pro Bowler has been ruled out of this week’s game against the Raiders because of a sprained shoulder.

The contest seven years ago is the only game Gonzalez has missed in his career. If history repeats itself, it will be a bad day for the Chiefs, who scored one offensive touchdown and lost by three points to the Bears in that 1999 season opener.
