Looking at the stats, the Chiefs ran away with a blowout win over the Seahawks. One look at the final score and it is amazing how the Super Bowl runner-ups only lost by a touchdown. Kansas City gained 499 yards and Larry Johnson gained 155 yards on the ground, but the Chiefs had a hard time putting Seattle away in a 35-28 win at Arrowhead Stadium.

Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards knew exactly how the Seahawks stayed in the game even without injured stars Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander.

“That goes to show you what happens in the National Football League when you miss opportunities and turn the ball over in the wrong area of the field and give up big plays.”

The offensive monster for Kansas City was a total team effort. Besides Damon Huard, who threw for 312 yards on 17-of-25 passing, three other Chiefs players eclipsed the century mark in yards gained. Johnson gained 155 on the ground and scored three touchdowns; he also caught a score in the second quarter. Eddie Kennison caught six balls for 132 yards, and Tony Gonzalez hauled in six passes for 116 yards.

Big plays and mistakes helped Seattle stay in the game. Chiefs cornerback Ty Law dropped an interception just a few plays before falling and giving up a 49-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Jackson.

In the third quarter, Kansas City botched a field goal snap and Kelly Herndon returned Chiefs holder Dustin Colquitt’s fumble 61 yards for a touchdown.

Kansas City trailed 28-27 in the fourth quarter until Johnson scored his final touchdown on a five-yard run with 2:15 left on the clock.

The Chiefs are over .500 now with a trip to St. Louis coming up Sunday.
