The Blues are trying to rebound from a very disappointing season last year. St. Louis signed a number of veteran free agents over the off-season that were supposed to help the team escape the NHL basement. Thursday night’s season opener offered a chance for the Blues to show the league things have been turned around. For a better portion of the game, the Blues played well, but fell just short 5-4 in overtime to a Sharks team that is considered a Stanley Cup contender.

Bill Guerin scored the last goal in regulation with 5.6 seconds to play sending the game into an extra period. Once Guerin scored, it was Eric Brewer that took the biggest sigh of relief. Brewer scored on his own goal to give the Sharks the lead with 5:42 left in regulation. San Jose was able to skate away with the win as Curtis Brown tipped in a rebound to win it in OT.
