Herm Edwards has spent the last two weeks answering questions about his struggling offense. Most critics blamed Edwards for focusing too much on the defense and being too conservative with an explosive offense. All questions were put to rest as the Chiefs roared to a 41-0 smashing of the 49ers Sunday.

Journeyman backup quarterback Damon Huard – filling in for the injured Trent Green – brushed off the rust going 18-for-23 for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Larry Johnson helped keep the offense balanced rushing for 101 yards and two scores.

The Chiefs defense held 49ers quarterback Alex Smith to just 92 yards passing and two interceptions. Running back Frank Gore was limited to 65 yards on the ground for the Chiefs first shutout since 2002.

“They’re starting to learn how to play defense, the kind of style we want to play. I credit [the coaching staff] for getting the shutout. It’s hard to shut a team out, regardless of who you are.

-Herm Edwards

The Chiefs defense has not allowed a touchdown in two straight games.

Kansas City jumped on top early taking a 24-0 lead into halftime. They now erase themselves from the list of winless teams in the NFL. Only the Raiders and Titans remain winless in the AFC.
