State Treasurer Sarah Steelman travels to Washington, D.C., to be honored for her office’s efforts to ensure Missouri tax dollars are not invested in countries or companies that sanction or support terrorism. The praise comes from the Center for Security Policy, which describes itself as being dedicated to international peace through American strength. Steelman says the screening process she has developed helps America’s men and women in the military who are fighting the war on terror. Steelman’s office has created a terror-free fund of international stocks. Under her screening process, there are no investments in companies with direct financial links to countries sanctioned by the U.S. government. Those countries include Iran, Sudan, Cuba, North Korea, and Syria.
