University of Missouri continues to rack up the Big 12 football honors this season. For the third week in a row, a Tiger has been named Big 12 Player of the Week. Senior defensive end Brian Smith added four sacks to his school career record against New Mexico earning him Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Smith joins quarterback Chase Daniel and linebacker Marcus Bacon as this year’s previous Tiger winners.

Along with celebrating his birthday last Saturday, Smith tied a Mizzou single-game record for sacks. His four sacks were half of the defense’s total in the game. All together, Smith finished with four sacks, six tackles, and a forced fumble. As a unit, the Tigers defense held the Lobos to 201 yards of total offense.

Missouri is 3-0 this season and with a very winnable game against Ohio this week, it’s very possible the Tigers could open conference play undefeated. The Big 12 season will open for Mizzou with a home contest against winless Colorado Sept. 30.
