The Royals built early steam and an early lead, but slow and steady won the race as the Mariners topped Kansas City 10-5, Sunday.

The Royals had a 5-4 lead halfway through the game before Seattle erupted for six runs in the final four innings. The Mariners blasted 14 hits including a home run each from Chris Snelling and Kenji Johjima.

Gil Meche (11-8) got the win despite a less than brilliant effort, tossing six innings and giving up five runs – four earned – on nine hits.

Royals starter Runelvys Hernandez was well on his way to a win after his offense built a 4-1 lead. Unfortunately, Hernandez couldn’t hang on surrendering four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings. Jimmy Gobble got the loss in relief allowing just one run in one-third inning.
