Herm Edwards was brought in to fix a Kansas City defense that had as many holes in it as Swish cheese. Well, the defense looks to be fixed, but what happened to the once explosive offense? The one-time NFL’s best has hit rock bottom. And for the first time in 93 meetings between the two AFC rivals, no touchdowns were scored as Denver kicked its way to a 9-6 win in overtime.

In week one against the Bengals, Kansas City was held to just 10 points. The lone touchdown was scored late in the fourth quarter with Cincinnati nursing a large lead with a soft umbrella coverage. Against Denver, the Chiefs never sniffed the end zone instead settling for two paltry field goals.

Larry Johnson, who had his string of nine-straight 100 yard games snapped last week, topped the century mark once again with 126 yards on 27 carries. He was about the only spark KC had on offense. Damon Huard, starting in place of the injured Trent Green, completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards. The journeyman backup was relegated to a slimmed down playbook and wasn’t able to take many shots down field.

Luckily for the Chiefs, the Broncos had a tough time clicking on offense as well. Jake Plummer did little to shake the Jay Cutler chants going 16-of-30 for 173 yards and an interception. Tatum and Mike Bell shared effectively shared time in the backfield combining for 113 yards on 29 carries.

Javon Walker’s acrobatic catch over Ty Law in OT was the key play in the final drive. Walker was running down the right sideline when he cleverly pushed off on Law and caught the Plummer under thrown pass. The ball was spotted at the Chiefs 25-yard line and Broncos were in game-winning field goal position.
