Kansas City tried to make their 6-0 lead stand up at the hands of the Mariners yesterday, but Seattle scored in each of the last five innings on their way to an 11-8 win over the Royals.

Royals first baseman Ryan Shealy began the night with some fireworks, blasting the first grand slam of his career in the bottom of the first inning. However, Seattle mounted a comeback, scoring two runs in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh, capped by first baseman Richie Sexson’s RBI-double that gave Seattle the lead for good.

Jake Woods got the win for the M’s, working six innings in relief of the ineffective Francisco Fruceta, who lasted just one inning in his start. Ryan Braun picked up the loss for KC.

Kansas City and Seattle go at it again today. All-Star Mark Redman gets the ball for the Royals.
