By now, Brad Lidge has to be tired of facing Albert Pujols. One day, Lidge will be able to retire Pujols with the game on the line in the ninth inning. That day wouldn’t be last night as Pujols drilled a two-out, two-run game-winning double off Lidge giving the Cardinals a 6-5 win over the Astros.

The win guarantees the Cardinals a series win, they won game one 7-0, and increases their lead over the Astros to seven games. Houston fell 4.5 games behind San Diego in the National League Wild Card race.

The Astros took the lead into the ninth after Chris Burke hit a two-run homer in the sixth giving the visitors a 5-4 lead. Lidge nullified the homer by blowing his sixth save in 37 chances. Three of the blown saves have been against the Cardinals.

Preston Wilson homered for the Cardinals against his former team.

Reliever Braden Looper pitched a scoreless two innings to get the win.
