Don’t expect to see Cardinals pitcher Mark Mulder back on the mound this season. The southpaw underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday to repair a tear in his rotator cuff. The surgery shouldn’t hinder his availability for spring training.

The partial tear caused inflammation and disrupted Mulder’s pitching motion. Without the proper mechanics, Mulder struggled to get full extension in his delivery. Mulder hopes to begin recovery in two weeks and start his normal training in December.

It’s a terrible end for a pending free agent that started the season so well. Mulder finishes this year 6-7 with a 7.14 ERA after winning three of his first four starts.
