In a season where the Royals have had a tough time finishing games, nothing really changed as they failed to sweep the Red Sox losing the series finale 9-3.

David Ortiz set a career-high with his 48th home run of the season leading the BoSox to a victory in what has quickly turned into a whirlwind season. Not too long ago, Boston was leading the American League East, but now finds themselves 7.5 games back in the wild-card race behind the Twins.

Wily Mo Pena helped out Ortiz with three hits and two RBI.

Julian Tavarez pitched 5.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits to get the win in his first start since 2002.

Mark Redman (9-9) gave up five runs in 4.2 innings taking the loss.
