The Royals were up to their old tricks yesterday, defeating yet another team with playoff aspirations. Joey Gathright’s ninth inning two-run double proved to be the difference in KC’s 10-9 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Odalis Perez worked seven strong innings, allowing just three runs and striking out ten Red Sox hitters. Mike Sweeney provided a lot of the offense, knocking in three runs on two doubles and a homer. The big fly was his sixth on the year.

Ambiorix Burgos got the last out in Boston’s six-run eighth, which earned him his fourth victory of the season. Joe Nelson worked the ninth for his sixth save.
