Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Claire McCaskill is coming under fire from Republicans for comments that could be seen as racial in nature. The St. Louis political web site PubDef Weekly has reported McCaskill said she would remind people “George Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black.” McCaskill campaign spokesperson Adrianne Marsh would only comment on the remark by reading a prepared statement saying McCaskill was only acknowledging this is what many people felt about the response to Hurricane Katrina. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has called McCaskill’s remarks outrageous and have called for McCaskill to apologize.
