Izzy Blows Lid… Again

September 7, 2006 By admin Leave a Comment

Poor Preston Wilson, he thought he was a hero. Well, he was for about half an inning. His ninth inning, two-run homer gave the Cardinals a brief 6-5. That was until closer Jason Isringhausen loaded the bases and gave up a game-winning single to Jose Vidro giving the Nationals a 7-6 win.

Isringhausen is third in the National League in save. On the flipside, he leads the league in blown saves. Izzy failed to nail down the door for the 10th time this year. The inning started bad for the Cardinals when Isringhausen walked Felipe Lopez after getting ahead 1-2. With one out, Lopez stole second base and Nick Johnson was hit by pitch. Ryan Church forced a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Vidro’s heroics.

Wilson, Scott Spiezio, and Yadier Molina each homered for the Redbirds.

Chad Cordero, who gave up the homer to Wilson, escaped with the win.
