It was looking awfully good for Royals starter Luke Hudson. The right hander was dealing, holding the powerful Yankee lineup to just one run in seven innings and striking out 10. He exited the game with a 5-1 lead in the eighth and a win was looking certain. Oh, don’t ever count out that Yankee mystique.

Jimmy Gobble entered the game in relief of Hudson and the flood gates took little time to open. Alex Rodriguez led off the inning with a single and the rally took off from there. Five straight batters reached base safely and four runs scored before the first out was recorded. In all, New York rallied for 10 runs in the eighth inning alone. Gobble surrendered four, Scott Dohmann gave up one, Andrew Sisco allowed three, and Ambiorix Burgos let two come across. An Abreu sacrifice fly in the ninth gave the Bombers a 12-5 win.

Abreu led the charge with four RBI, while Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada both homered and chipped in with three RBI apiece.
