Mark Mulder’s comeback from injury hit yet another snag yesterday. In just his second start since returning from the DL, the Cardinals’ starter was hammered by the Florida Marlins to the tune of five runs on six hits. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, matching the shortest outing of his career.

After grabbing a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Marlins surrendered a leadoff homer to the Redbirds’ Preston Wilson in the bottom of the inning. That’s as close as St. Louis would get though, as Florida added four runs in the top of the second to take a 5-1 advantage.

Florida’s Dan Uggla homered and drove in four runs. His 449-foot shot was the longest recorded at new Busch Stadium. Teammate Hanley Ramirez was a home run shy of the cycle.

St. Louis could muster just four hits all night against Marlins’ pitchers. Starter Scott Olsen went eight innings and struck out four in picking up the victory.
